ALBERT EINSTEIN RIDES A BICYCLE (10 CARDS)

Albert Einsteins links to Switzerland

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, on March 14, 1879. His parents were both Jewish immigrants from Bavaria. They named him after his grandfather, Albrecht. Einstein's name is inextricably linked with Switzerland. It was here that he made his greatest scientific achievements. Even after his departure for Berlin and his later emigration to America, he remained attached to Switzerland and retained his Swiss citizenship until his death.

The Theory of Relativity

In 1905, he published his theory of relativity. It explained why objects moving at different speeds appear to contract or expand from the perspective of an observer traveling with them. This led to the development of special relativity. In 1922, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his pioneering research on relativity.

Einstein in the USA

Persecuted as a Jew in Germany, Einstein fled to America in 1933 to take up a position as professor of theoretical physics at Princeton.

The photograph on the card shows Albert Einstein on a bicycle in front of the home of Ben Meyer in Santa Barbara, California, on February 6, 1933.

Meyer was a California Institute of Technology trustee.

The postcards to purchase in sets of 10 with or without matching envelope.
